Textual analysis

We decided to do some research into horror movies to look for codes and conentions and we discovered that there are more than most people believe.
These codes and conventions include:

  • diegetic music and non-diegetic music
  • over the shoulder shots for people involved in conversations
  • Close ups
  • Witty jokes and responses
  • Sound merge
  • montage
  • main characters in convosation
  • slow motion
  • horror text
  • blood
  • screaming
  • people dying
  • the main weapon of the muderers choice
  • shouting
  • loud noise
  • enhanced sounds
  • blood red tittle
  • heartbeat sound
  • dumb blonde of some sort
  • phonecall/doorbell
  • looking into the darkness
  • creaking
  • miss-speach (saying something that theyre not meant to say)
  • aggresive tone
  • crying

  1. remember that you are required to produce the opening sequence to a film so there must be consideration of the typical codes and conventions of opening sequences too.
